Been coming here for years. It’s always the same…Fantastic! The fried chicken is the best. I’d also recommend the Sandy Steak Tikka. It’s the best steak you’ll ever have. And get a mint lemonade or a Masala Soda.
Himalaya remains one of the best Indo-Pak restaurants in Houston and possibly the US. The chicken hara masala is the best!!
Amazing place. Nothing fancy, just excellent food!
Today we came to this restaurant with our family, including our 22-month-old daughter and our 10-month-old son. The restaurant was extremely hot inside. There was no air conditioning, only fans, and despite the Texas heat, it actually felt cooler outside than it did inside the restaurant. A few minutes after we sat down, our 10-month-old son began screaming and crying. Like any parents would, we immediately tried to comfort him. We checked his diaper, tried playing, offered him milk, and later fed him once our food arrived. Nothing worked. Before our food even came out, the owner approached us and told us we needed to take our son outside because he was disturbing the other guests. We understood that a crying baby can be disruptive, so we did take him outside. Our food was ready a minute after we had just got told to leave. When our food was ready, we came back in to try again, and eat. We also fed him in the process but within a few minutes he started screaming and crying all over again. At that point, we became genuinely concerned because this was completely out of character for him. As soon as I stepped back outside with him, he calmed down almost immediately. We realized he was only becoming distressed while inside the restaurant, so I stayed outside with him while the rest of my family finished eating. While I was standing outside with my baby, one of the waiters walked by and said to me in Spanish, “At last they kept you outside,” with a smirk on his face. That comment was unnecessary, disrespectful, and completely lacking in empathy. As a mother who was already worried about her baby, being mocked by a staff member made an upsetting situation even worse. I understand that restaurants have to balance the comfort of all of their guests, and I appreciate that. However, there is a respectful and compassionate way to handle situations involving families with young children. We were doing everything we could to calm our son and figure out what was wrong. We weren’t ignoring the situation, we were trying to help him. In the end, we realized our son was only comfortable outside, where it was actually cooler than inside the restaurant. Instead of showing concern or understanding, we were met with impatience from the owner and an unprofessional, rude comment from a waiter. We showed up excited to show a visiting familiar a great place to eat at in Texas and left with such a bad experience. I hope the owners take this feedback seriously. Improving the temperature inside the restaurant and treating customers especially families with young children with kindness and respect would go a long way.
I love to support local restaurants, But it’s different when the owner is absolutely rude and entitled, his staff even seems to be walking on eggshells. I bet the tips that are left don’t go back to staff, but pockets the money himself. There’s a whole chain of comments, on other social media platforms that are in total agreement. Also look over the menu it’s full of rules! Anthony Bourdain would be so disappointed. Rest in peace
