I visited this place after seeing all the positive reviews, but unfortunately my experience was very disappointing. I bought 8 samosas, and they were by far the worst I’ve had. The filling was mostly plain, underseasoned potatoes that tasted almost raw. The samosas were extremely oily, not crispy at all, and completely lacked flavor. I would honestly rate them 0/10. I also purchased kalakand, which had a sour smell and tasted sour as well. It did not seem fresh, which was very disappointing. What made the experience even worse was the behavior of three Punjabi ladies working there. They were making fun of us and talking among themselves in Punjabi, assuming we wouldn’t understand. Unfortunately for them, I do understand Punjabi, and their comments were very unprofessional and disrespectful. Overall, I had a very poor experience with both the food and the customer service. I would not recommend this place.

We had the goat curry plate with a side of Kadi. It costs $19 and comes with 2 naans or rice. We had the naans. Tasty and freshly prepared, we enjoyed our sumptuous lunch.

I recently purchased sweets from Raja Sweets. I bought Cream Gulab Jamun and Kaju Katli. The sweets were good but not exceptionally amazing. The prices seemed a bit high. It would be great if they had a wider variety of sweets at more affordable prices. 😊 However, the staff had decent customer service.

Excellent gulab jamun shop with fresh, delicious sweets and great variety. Every item tastes authentic and rich in flavor. Friendly staff, clean environment, and consistently high quality make it favorite.

I want to share my experience with raja sweets,we came all the way from Dallas on 12 Feb 2025,bought couple of sweets and pakora, they gave the red sauce with it. When we came home check the sauce it had cockroach in it. I was extremely disappointed with their cleanliness standards and quality checks. To Everyone whenever you buy something do check it. @ Raja sweets please improve your standards and quality checks.

Asked them for fresh jilebi for party at my home. They forgot my order and all the three members in the front counter managed to give me old jilebi which was in the display from ages. All the guests gave negative review on jilebi. Taste and crisp is not upto the mark. Service is also low quality same as their jilebi . RIP jilebi and money. Not worth at all....highly not recommended.

First off, the sweets are always spot on so this is not a review again the food. I’m primarily writing this because of the younger girl at the counter. Not only was the customer service terrible but she was down right mean. She basically greets people by saying “yes?” with a mean tone and face. It felt like we were bothering her by just walking in and unfortunately the older ladies there didn’t even really care. Customer service is part of the experience and matters.

Customer service is not good! We went because they have good lassi, they forced to buy something if it’s not more than certain amount. When we order lassi it looks like they put half cup of sugar in it. I would like to give zero star.

I come here occasionally, but recently learned they offer free food to hpd officers. Apparently it’s because they “protect our community”, make of that what you will lmao. Maybe next time I see an officer blocking 4 lanes of traffic or abusing oppressed groups, I'll yell "thank you for the protection!!" Setting that aside, the other low reviews are spot on. The quality of the ras malai (and several other mithai) has gone downhill. You’re honestly better off checking out other shops anyway.

Stumbled on this place one day looking for goat curry, not curry goat. Stopped in this place and was so glad I did. I had an overflowing plate of goat curry, lentils, and rice. Everything was hot and fresh. The service at the register could have been more pleasant, however. I'm big on customer service and making sure everyone is respected, so I notice these things. Yet, I keep going back. That goat curry is a hit!

Raja Sweets is my favorite restaurant for a quick lunch and grab some sweets afterwards. Service was quick. I just wish there were labels on the sweets. I know it has been around for a long time. Labels will help me to get correct item, instead I kept using the website for reference.

It's a wonderful place for vegetarian dishes and for fresh sweets, fresh pakora and fresh tea. In sweets items jalebi and Juli is our best favorite. Visiting them since 2002 but it's first time that I am writing this review. Family owned restaurant since decades and they are trustable for all community.

I have been coming here for decades and the quality has been consistent over time. It has been a while since I have been but the food is still amazingly fragrant, spiced well, and still served on styrofoam plates! Staff was friendly, samosas were fresh, and tasty sweet 💯

Great food. I usually avoid Indian food because of how spicy it's made. But this was made just right. I haven't even begun on the sweets. I don't know what the name of the sweet was but it was delicious and the long line at the counter explains it all. Customer service could use improvement. Each time the women behind the counter are bumping into each other looking confused and are a bit rude. The point is to sell the food when a customer is asking for guidance. We’re not all Indians or Pakistanis buying. We’re trying new foods and would like help choosing.

Authentic food, incredibly good sweets. Their Julie (amongst other sweets) can’t be missed. Super affordable and simple food, had their delicious pakora-kadhi with hot tandoori naan. Wish we’d have found this place earlier. They also have a paan counter, great paan(stuffed betel nut leaf)

Very worst service ever. I ordered mixed sweets from there I clearly told them to put everything 2 pieces, I didn’t check right away because I thought everything was packed and returned home, after I get home and opened the pack sweets are not completely packed and khowa cake are missing. I called them and told them about the package the lady who was answering call was so rude and she didn’t even want to know what was wrong and just hang out my call. I can’t believe how bad service is this.

We stopped at Raja Sweets for a quick Tea Stop. Its a nice Cafe with a lots of sweets variety to choose from. We tried their Qalakand and Kaju katli which was good in taste and less in sugar. Really appreciate it when I asked for coffee in a milk they were willing to make it and it tasted delicious. Love the customer service.

This place is one of my favorite place to eat Indian vegetarian food. This place is famous for their papadi chat which taste real good. It is located in Hillcroft and they are easily noticed in crowd. They have many sweets option and their food is fresh. We love going to this place. They have pan beside the door which is also one of my favorite. You need to try their food so that you can remember their taste in your life 😊😊

The service was top tier, the gentleman that helped me Sunday was awesome, and patient. They have a large selection of fragrances. We were able to get me 7 scents, we created fragrances to my liking. The gentleman says to me he felt like a scientist, truly he was because we created beautiful smelling scents together. I also found body sprays that leave a statement when you're entering a room. I most definitely will be back, very comfortable environment.

The samosa was really bad. It was old and not crunchy, even though it was hot. You could tell it was made earlier and just warmed up. The outside was soft and soggy, and the inside didn't taste good. It wasn't fresh at all. There was even a burning smell from it. I was hoping for a yummy snack, but it was just disappointing.

Houston staple for Indian sweets. One suggestion to help bring in more customers... I hope Raja Sweets and neighboring restaurants advocate to their landlord (during rent increases or lease renewals) to install EV charging stations in the parking lot. There are already several EVs who come here. I recommend reaching out to local Houston company Pangea Charging if you decide to explore this further. It's a great way to bring in more customers, increase spend, and even create loyalty.

First time in this place, got a pound of habshi halwa as it looked good. Got home tried it and tasted like burnt milk. Very disappointed. Found out about this place from my colleague, and I've been hooked ever since. I have brought at least 10 different people here, most of whom have gone back there again with their friends or family because they enjoyed it so much. I still remember the first day I went there- I had to get snacks for a party and my colleague suggested I get samosas from there. And I liked that place so much, I rushed back there after the party to pick up some sweets for my best friend. And she absolutely loved it. I go back there all the time for everything from my random sweet cravings to getting things for parties or someone's house. I went there yesterday to get sweets for a friend and saw the Eid boxes so I had to get some for my family. I flew to a different state to see my family today and I brought them sweets from Raja and they are eating it right now- they absolutely love it. I really appreciate their Ramadan and Eid decorations. I don't know think it's a Muslim owned shop, so the fact that they had Ramadan and Eid decorations made me feel very included. Would definitely recommend this place for both their food and sweets.

My family placed a big order of $125 for Sweets to be distributed. We are disappointed by several issues in the order. 1. Nothing tasted good, Gulab Jaman was mediocre and everything else is even less. 2. We expected sweets to be fresh especially when we ordered in advance but nothing tasted fresh. 3. You have Rabdi on the menu but you gave us some sort of Kheer. We called right away and was told that you guys are using the word Rabdi for Kheer. Seriously! There is a huge difference in both. 4. Gajar ka Halwa was actually a Mithayi instead of a Halwa. Disappointed.

The sweets are not the same quality as you find at haldiram or bikanerwala or anywhere near it when it comes to softness or finesse or taste. It seems to be made in-house by the owner /members not trained employees I guess.. like local small scale halwai shop. Like u make it in ur house.. lots of red orange color used.. don’t see any saffron flavors / color etc ..tastes ok.. and yes no sampling or tasting is allowed. The presentation of sweet is average to less nothing special to die for compared to authentic Indian sweets. Ok ok

I placed a large order for 500 Gulab Jamun a week in advance. At $2 each (which I found out was a ripe off after the fact) but that's not the issue. I picked up the dessert and when I got to my event I opened the trays to zero syrup and dried out Gulab Jamun. This was so disappointing I had to make my own syrup for them as they were so dry. Raja sweet came highly recommended but idk if it's because I'm not Indian they thought they can get away with it. But I spent A LOT of money for a crappy product. So disappointed 😔

What sort of pakoras are these? Which Aata flour do you use? They are dry, tasteless and hard to swallow. Also rushing your customers to embarrass them, it can be their first time so give them time to decide..

Located in the Mahtma Gandhi district in Houston, it’s no wonder why this place was featured on food blogs and Instagrams. Generally, for Punjabi sweets, it is expected (if they are not aware of it, they should not be in business of selling sweets) that they will have mild samplers so that customer can decide what how much to buy... but the rude lady replied "you have to buy to taste"...These people lost us at the very same moment and we expected nothing more from them. Left with a bland taste. We will not return or recommend anyone this shop.

Tried the following 1. Jilebi - fresh and yummy, made daily, excellent taste 2. Samosa - though it is made fresh, it is very oily, stuffing is no good 3. Pakoda - not that good 4. Ompudi / Sev - no good and over priced

A standout Indian sweet shop with a vibrant ambiance and a wide variety of high-quality sweets like Kaju Katli and Rasgulla. The friendly, knowledgeable staff enhance the experience, and the authenticity and craftsmanship make it worthwhile. A must-visit for anyone craving a true taste of India. Highly recommended!

Bought Ras Malai today and got charged $32.00. All were bad smelling and liquid was sticky and all the pieces were sticky and spoiled. Never buy anything here. Most of their stuff is not fresh and sell the left overs from previous days

Absolutely discusting. The service, the food all of it. There was nothing good. Literally they have no system of taking orders and the lady kept walking off every time we tried to order. Like come on, if as a family we go, I think it works if you take the whole order together instead of pieces. And the food was a joke. Plz I beg you McDonald’s is better at service than this.

I don't have much of a sweet tooth, but have counted on Raja Sweets and their amazing food for many years now. I get the butter chicken and goat or lamb curry and veggie options when I want also. Always consistently good, at a fair price and FAST! I will continue being a consistent customer. You can still get very good Kheer also, you just have to order it one day ahead of time. :)

Phenomenal service and mithai. I called and the owner, Sharan invited me to come make the selection for my wedding. As soon as she found out I would be picking up the night before to take the mithai to my nikah the next morning. She offered to let me come pick up an hour before they even open the store. She went above and beyond to help me make the selections for the mithai that went in the decorative boxes (which by the way they have the best selection of in the greater Houston area). Very friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend placing your large orders here specially if they need decorative boxes. They have the best tasting mithai in town as well.

I usually go to bombay sweets or chowpatti chaat, thought i would try the place out, and sadly regret it. Got samosa chaat, and the samosa was old and looked like it was warmed up in microwave. Hot soggy samosa with cold water downed yogurt. The gulab jaamu was ok, but not worth the price. I wont be coming back here.

A Houston institution for the South Asian community in Houston, my family has been coming to Raja Sweets since the 1990s. The mithai selection is simply superb and the quality of the taste is simply the best in houston. I personally love having their Gulab Jamun. It’s moist and a perfect balance of sweet and not sticky. The pink coconut laddoo is also very tasty and I don’t think enough people notice it. The Jalebi is a staple. It’s crunchy and bursting with syrup sugar. The color of the jalebi is authentic as it can get. My last favorite is their Julie. Super milky, sweet and moist. Almost like Indias version of a tres leches but in a mithai form. For anyone visiting Houston, do check out Raja Sweets.

Been coming here since I was a kid and when ever I do, it’s like taking a time machine back to the good old days. The sweets are the same great quality and even the paanwala uncle knows how to slap it together as he’s been there for 30+ years . Friendly owners who take pride in their sweets and it’s shows once you taste it. I highly recommend.

My question is, how haven’t I been here sooner?!! IT IS SUCH A GEM!! And it’s the oldest Indian Restaurant in Texas! Perfect little Mom and Pop, no frill, and DELICIOUS. The women who run it know what they’re doing and Sharan is amazing! Their naan bread, which is made in a traditional tandoori oven, is absolutely divine. And let’s not forget about the sweets of course- WOW what a lovely beautiful array desserts to choose from. Perfect for a party platter too. I only got to try 3 of them so far and they were all mouth watering. I will definitely be back for more! Rana Sweets is officially on my favorites list now. It’s a must for fresh Authentic quick Indian food!

I am a regular customer of Raja sweets and a big fan of their Chiana Julie. It was very unfortunate that the milk sweet i bought from them caused severe allergy to me and my son. I know i was getting the last pieces from the tray , but I did not expect a bad one. I also bought a pack for my friend and she immediately throw up taking one of the pieces. Be cautious when you are buying sweets from them especially milk sweets which can easily cause allergic reactions. I will not even give a star to this place. When i called them about the bad quality sweets I got, they responded that they will take care and give me a fresh batch when i go. But when I went there they had a very bad response saying that I was the only person complaining and I do not know why a person should lie about the quality of product they buy. They had worst customer care i have ever experienced. The manager and the store ladies were so rude. I will never go back.

Wanted to celebrate new year with sweets. Found very high reviews on Google for Raja Sweets. The place was packed with people and had to wait in the queue. Bought my wife's favorite Jalebi's. Big mistake. I usually like to taste before I buy anything from the Indian bakeries or sweet shops. Because of rush I forgot. The Jalebi's were cooked in old oil used for cooking Samosas. Instead of eating sweet for new year, the Raja Sweets Jalebi is going to trash. I don't think I will ever visit this place. This is my first review with a very poor rating on public web site.

Every single lady behind the counter is so rude, Giving me & my grandma dirty looks, & talking to us VERY rudely. as if she is doing us a favor, Never again will i support these people. We went there today with family. I asked for a plate and told the serving lady to not give me too much yogurt curry. Then I realised the liquid was less. So I asked har if I can have one more spoon if liquid in my take out bag. She rudely declined and said they charge 3.50 additional. Hello.....we are regular customers and had just sent 33 dollars and you are freaking out over 1 spoon of sauce. Not only that she we n.v t and told other ladies including the owner and starting gossiping. Terrible service, worst ever attitude and soo cheap. They use to be good. But, for sure we are never coming back here again. We almost spend 150 dollars or more a month. No more.

Very bad customer service. We were going there for the first time, so we took some time picking out the sweets we wanted and instead of explaining things to us, the ladies behind the counter were laughing out loud at us. They kept talking to each other in Hindi about how we don't know how to order anything, thinking that we couldn't understand them. We understand Hindi very well; even if we didn't know Hindi, that is no way to treat a customer. They have no manners, no respect towards outside customers; overall very bad experience.

I’d like to say that I’m Mexican and do not know a lot about Indian sweets. I was watching an episode of Bizarre Foods and I watched the episode of Houston and I was intrigued when Raja Sweets was visited by Andrew Zimmern. Curiosity brought me here after that episode. I’ve tried about 5 different sweets and I can honestly say my favorite is the Julie. What was once a curiously visit has turned in to a frequent trip for more Julie sweets that me and my family enjoy with coffee. Side note: My last visit was during Diwali and the line for sweets was literally out the door. The women working were not only beautiful dressed but cleared the line within minutes! I waited no more than five minutes for my sweets. I love you Raja Sweets! - Liz in Katy

Lately I wrote a review from another google account about being rushed and bad service. The owner assumed it was weekend and replied they are in the business from some years and we were rushed because it was a weekend. It wasn’t a weekend and there was no one expect 2 of us.My friend said she had the same experience earlier also and that’s why she stopped going there. The owner is free to mend the bad replies the way she likes. A constructive feedback is definitely not their cup of tea. I wonder the other reviews are real or not??? Not sure why I was blocked on the original thread?

The mithai here are certified, an established Indian sweets place in HTX. The prices per lb at 8.50 for an assorted box of indian sweets is legit. I didn't know what to get as I didn't bother with the reviews beforehand. But the eye test and trust placed with the ladies at cash, I told them I needed 10 boxes for the occasion of the birth of my nephew and they delivered. I knew they made the right choices because all my friends and families loved their sweets. You can't go wrong here.

Need to learn customer service!! Rushing the customers left and right without any reason. No courtesy, loud and rude and edgy! A young lady may be in her early 30’’s who attended us! Don’t waste your time. Find a place where you feel welcome and relaxed and notice that the shopkeeper is happy to see you! Good they are old in business but bossy nature won’t last long. Word if advice. Ppl remember the restaurants for 3 things 1) Welcoming happy staff 2) Food should be served in timely manner 3) Taste, can bypass above 2 if the flavor is exceptionally good which wasn’t the case here.

Best Gulab Jamun West of the Mississippi! (Actually, probably the best I've ever tasted...) And their tea tastes just like the stuff I used to be addicted to in Queens, NY, which is delightful. The woman behind the counter for service serves in a pretty unhygienic manner even after we’ve all lived through a deadly pandemic which is still very much present around. The food and service here are very good. I had vegetables in a delicious yellow curry sauce with rice, my friend had chicken with naan (a baked flatbread) I had a mango drink, and my friend had chai tea. I had seen this place on TV a few years ago, and I wanted to try it. They have many varieties of sweets, but my favorite part was the food. You order and pick up your food at the counter here, and the staff were very nice about answering questions. My only disappointment was that their chai tea is not available as a cold drink. I don't think that they have cold coffee, either.

I bought burfi along with other sweets it was amazingly delicious. The samosa was authentic punjabi fesh and tasty. I have noticed this is the only desi place where I keep on adding things to buy and when I am done the bill is so so low. Meaning they don't RIP you off. Very very good prices. I gave 4 stars and not 5 because the lady tried to sell me one samosa which was burst open, they need to be careful with that. Don't be fooled by the understated simple look of this place - it has AMAZING sweets, fresh and full of flavour. If you manage to get past the sweets and the aroma of the freshly fried Bhajjiyas and Samosas flowing in from the kitchen, you'll also find that they have some lovely simple home made style food too - try their Thali to sample a little bit of everything. Their "Julie" mithayi has to be the best one they have! We only come here for it, literally a must-try and it always tastes fresh.

Fahad Ahmad
Fahad Ahmad8/18/2026

Their mithai is decent but one of the worst customer service experiences I have had dealing w a restaurant. I called in twice to find out about how shipping or purchasing process would work over the phone. First time some lady answered and when asked about shipping, she immediately said no and hung up... I called back and asked how I could pay over the phone and I spoke in Punjabi bc she seemed to prefer Hindi/Punjabi, told me to come in and hung up again. I have purchased mithai from them in the past when I was visiting Houston, the person serving me seemed 'standoffish'. You could tell they didn't handle stress of multiple customers well. Having said that, if you can handle that food tastes much better than your desi grocery store stuff!

Just went there today, asked if I can get the huge tray of fresh jalebi's from back, that is clearly visible from the outside counter. But the lady refused to give me from inside, insisting the tray on the outside is from the same batch. Even after I asked her politely twice. She still refused. So I bring it home and of course not fresh jalebi( 50% was soggy) it's from yesterday. Reason I asked to get it from back was because I saw the outside tray of jalebi was almost finished, hence the request. Why do desi businesses not respect customers' wishes? Even though I am paying full price for the product. Definitely not going back with that kind of attitude and dishonest disgusting service!

They have good food alright but the attitude of the staff and owner leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Only the daughter of the owner seems to know service. The rest makes you feel like they're doing you a favor by letting you eat there. Not once did I ever hear a thank you and the owner is always frowning.

Stopped by to have tea and some snacks. Their tea was good. Snacks were... meh! Cold and you could tell that it was cooked much earlier. Pakora and samosas have to be crisp and warm at least. What I had was the opposite of it. Apparently Andrew Zimmern has visited this place. I presume he didn't have "cold" snacks.

Renia Butler
Renia Butler8/18/2026

The fried street foods were amazing and crunchy. I love crunchy, which is probably why all my crowns are chipped..but I digress. I tried them all.. I have had tons of samosas in my life time but these were perfectly crispy and had unique balance of potatoes and spice. The Pakora was scrumptious, there's nothing like some good ole deep fried vegetables. Makes me feel like I'm getting back at the system when I eat fried, healthy stuff. I sampled a piece of the Chaat, which is a deep fried, mildly spicy wheat flour bread. I could have easily just eaten these 3 things but that's totally not how I roll. We tried 2 meals: the Chicken Curry with Rice and Chick peas, and the Lentils with Naan and Cauliflower. The chicken was juicy and flavorful, the lentils were perfectly seasoned and the rice was tender and had the perfect hint of jasmine.

Small, clean Indian restaurant that serves a limited amount of home cooked North Indian food. Sweets and snacks also available. The owners (bunch of ladies) who also serve food at the counter can be a bit rude and brusque at times. Please note that they don't serve food 15mins before closing time as the ladies serving there show extreme keenness in cleaning and closing down the place for an early rush to their residences.

Sarah Lobo

Raja is the best place in Houston to buy Indian sweets... Hands down! They have a large assortment to choose from in the window and all are freshly made. You can choose from different ladoos and barfis, galab jamuns and ras malai. They also have great butter chicken here and you can get the meal plate for about $9. It generally lasts me for 3 meals because their serving portions are generous! If you're like me and choose to get it to go, you get a salad/pickle, vegetable and a meat packed away! You also have the option of eating it there, and if you do that you may need to share it with someone because they seriously serve you a lot of food!

A petit table, far left. We shared naan and blossoming love. Gulab jamon, its sweet syrup dripped from our fingers like nectar that would flow later in the night.
