Very clean and filling food. My family of 5 went for lunch and were all satisfied without the gross after-feeling of restaurant food. The man at the register immediately accommodated us and explained the food we had questions about. He seated us comfortably for my daughter who was on crutches and rushed to bring us complementary bread, making sure we were satisfied and cared for. Food is halal and very delicious for those who only eat halal and want a good gourmet option. 10/10 would recommend and was very reasonably priced for delicious all-you-can-eat food.

I was disappointed with my experience at this buffet restaurant. We were a party of only four people, yet a 10% service charge/tip was automatically added to our bill without clear prior notice. Customers should be informed upfront when additional charges are applied, especially for small groups. I was also surprised that the restaurant does not offer any senior citizen discount. Many buffet restaurants provide discounts for seniors, so this was disappointing. While the food was acceptable, the unexpected service charge and lack of senior discounts left a negative impression. I believe the restaurant should be more transparent about its billing practices and consider offering better value to senior customers.

I attended a 650-guest event at ULH Event Center, and everything was managed smoothly. The catering by Shanai was excellent—fresh, flavorful, and well-served despite the large crowd. Great overall experience.

We've been catering and eating here for years and they are one of my favorite restaurants in Houston. When you cater for events and/or get a to-go order of trays, you get a good amount of food for the price besides it tasting really good. The buffet has always been one of my favorites with a good variety of options to eat and it never gets too crowded. Definitely check them out if you have not already. Across the street they have their own hall for events as well if interested.

It seem restaurants with the most authentic and satisfying dishes are commonly tucked away in peculiar locations. Shahnai is a perfect example of this. Speaking with the staff, I saw the pride they have in the service they provide. And they should have pride! Friendly, helpful and there when I needed them. Everything I tried was wonderful(the palak paneer was some of the best I've had) and satisfying. Can't wait to return!

Yesterday afternoon we was eating the food there was no taste so cold it looks like they are using the food from before day tomorrow.they are using the before one it happened 3rd times we complain and lady said I dntcare . In my opinion the best food is agas . They make fresh food and taste .

The Ambience, positive vibe and the staff combined with delicious food is an Amazing experience that you can get at this Place. The owner Rizwan bhai is a very humble person, the staff is polite and friendly. Tried lunch buffet... lot of option to choose.. chicken seekh, chkn tikka, beef haleem, nihari butter chikn, mutton gravy..lot of veggies and lot of salads, deserts and many more... drinks complimentory... Naan served hot at the table...14 bucks for such delicious cuisine is Highly recommendable.. a must try if you at Harvin... loved it... enjoyed it.. and an experience to cherish.. will re visit soon...Delicious, clean and a good restaurant for food..👍👍👍👍👌👌👌👌

My 1st time trying the food and it was good. The Birriani rice is top notch. Mr. Rizwan is very nice. Customer service is awesome

These people will automatically charge you for a tip. They will sneak it on to the bill without telling you. When I questioned them they played dumb, then telling me they automatically charge a gratuity. Just charge more for the buffet instead of being sneaky and adding a gratuity.

Came here with my kids, they love it! Environment is very family friendly, lady at the front is very nice and welcoming! Naans were fresh. Atmosphere is awesome 👌

Good things first - biryani at 16$ is substantial and so is chana dal at 9$. That's the good news. Chana dal had so much oil it was a layer on top. Had to use napkin to absorb oil. To top that, it was one of the saltiest things I've ever eaten. Oily and salty - seriously. Biryani was an odd story, I used the BOGO on UberEATS - one had good 5 meaty pieces and the other maybe 3. Rice was oily. Chicken pieces tasted fine. I plated the biryani into a mixing bowl to make sure no foreign "things" were present referred to by prior reviews. Oh, the biryani at 16$ didn't even have raita or salnah. Absolutely no reason to frequent this place.

Chicken DoorDash Biryani is worst biryani of the town, quite hazardous to health which may lead to the newly contagious Hanta virus undoubtedly. All customers please be careful and avoid the Shahnai DoorDash biryani.

Fantastic food and wonderful service. The owner is also amazing. We think they have the best butter chicken in all of Houston because they make it with a Pakistani twist. They have amazing Naan bread and their hummus is out of this world period. Please come here and give it a chance. Just don't waste your food and make sure to use the plastic-ware. The floor may also be slippery. Be careful.

My brother and his pregnant wife got takeout for us for a small family gathering. THERE WAS A BROKEN FINGERNAIL in her food and the whole meal was thrown out because she immediately vomited all over the table. They were refusing to refund us until we made a big deal and then at the end only gave us a partial refund. Owner named Shahid said we should have kept the vomit covered food in our fridge until they could inspect it. “If you could save the nail why couldn’t you save the food” were his words. He then said to wait five days until he completes his inquiry before he would let us know his decision on a refund. The person working there questioned my brother on what his religious background was which was incredibly inappropriate.

The worst experience i ever had in my life: 1. stinky Biryani and regular rice like week old. 2. Mix salad was old and smell bad 3. fountain drink was broken. saying not available 4. Rice pudding noticed lots of hairs. i would never come back if i need to take my heath serious.

Shahnai has an amazing buffet! My family and I typically go to their evening buffet, however we decided to try out their weekend morning buffet and we were pleasantly surprised. They provided a wide range of food items, all very tasty and hot, including the soft roti. There was also a variety of desserts such as halwa, kheer, custard, jello, and cake, which was exceptional. The waitress was also attentive and friendly, she took care of us quite well. This place is seriously underrated and I recommend it to anyone looking for a desi buffet place in the Houston area!

They really need to work on their hygiene. I've been going there for years, especially for the paya but know I think I'll stick to take out. On my last visit the onions from the salad bar were smelling really rancid. So for catering and take out I would still recommend but dining in is getting scary.

Keep an eye on your car. Had good customer service and hospitality but catering food wasn't same as we tried there. Kheer was salty and had a spoiled taste. Biryani was dry.

Wonderful butter chicken, fresh Naan bread, the beef and veggie options are also really good. Affordable pricing for an all you can eat place with drinks included. Service is excellent with friendly staff, definitely see myself and my family coming back here.

There was bugs in the food, biryani was old, pasta was soggy and over cooked, some of the bbq chicken was not cooked all the way. If you want an upset stomach and diarrhea then please be my guest and come here.

We did a catering order and it was phenomenal. Everyone loved the Hyderabadi goat biryani and all other items. I would highly recommend big party catering thru them!

I recently dined with just one other person, and I was surprised to find a $6 gratuity automatically added to our bill. Gratuity should typically apply to larger groups, not a small party of two. This policy wasn’t communicated clearly, and it felt unfair given that we were only two people. On top of that, the food was disappointing—bland and lacking in freshness. Overall, the quality of the food and the unexpected gratuity left us dissatisfied. I wouldn’t recommend this buffet, and I doubt I’ll be back.

Great costumer service super delicious food clean and quiet place

I have dined in multiple times, however I just went with family, and we were so disappointed. We all love haleem and with our fist bite, we understood the haleem was spoiled. It had an awful taste. All the other items were very disappointing as well. Kebab and kebab sallan (the same). Some chicken that was probably BBQ also in a sallan. Repeated items nothing fresh or different. I think this was my last visit.

Finally decided to try this place, been living in the area for years now and have never been. I have been to several other similar cuisine restaurants to this and I was excited to see there take on dishes. My lamb dish was quite nice, the lamb was tender and well seasoned, the garlic Naan was also adequate but the amount was a bit less then what I was expecting, I found the saffron rice to be a bit mild. My partners dish had a variety of different flavors, the curry here isn't a spicy

This was our first time going there.. I know we will be going there again and again.. Next time we will bring some American friends.. Wonderful experience. If you are looking for no nonsense, no frills, good quality food, then this is it. Very reasonably priced. Why go to a place and pay for a beautiful ceiling when all you want is good quality authentic reasonably priced Pakistani food, especially when you are hungry. The owner is a very nice person. Highly recommend this place.

This restaurant is a joke. Ordered through uber eats and this is what their chicken 65 is. A shame.

My time at Shahnai was a complete nightmare. The place was dirty, the food was bad, and both I and my relatives ended up with serious food poisoning. To make matters worse, we found a dead roach in the biryani, and the overall taste suggested the food might have been frozen. It's clear they don't care about cleanliness or quality, so I strongly suggest avoiding Shahnai for your own safety and the safety of your loved ones.

I have been coming to this spot since 2012 and their butter chicken and fresh naan bread never disappoint. For iftar perfect spot good dates and rose water, match made in heaven. Lol. Ramadan Karim!

We were invited for dinner by a family friend on January28.. Party hall was alright, stuff was nice. Buffet had a lot to choose from, food was good and well served. We enjoyed our time there. However restrooms in party hall need to be fixed. None of the three stalls were usable, sink area was dirty and most of the lights were out.

Honestly this is probably my favorite buffet. The price is pretty fair for the flavor. But I love the parking space, it's wide and plenty of room maneuver. Everytime I'm in this restaurant, it's never really pack, so I can easily go grab my food. And I sit close to the food. So it's like 3 steps away. The people are nice. And amazing curry and spicy food. Love the rice too

Butter chicken needed some help. But all the hot food was great. The cold food, what I think was rascals I was looking for the cheese there was none to found. The kheer needed some cardamon. Overall my first experience was nice. Our waiter was great.

Having frequented Shahnai Restaurant many years ago, I recently decided to return with hopes of rekindling fond memories. Unfortunately, I found that the quality has not improved over the years. My dining experience at Shahnai was underwhelming to say the least. The Nahari delivered an overwhelmingly spicy punch, which seemed to mask any other flavors it might have had. Conversely, the biryani was decidedly bland, missing the rich tapestry of spices one would expect from such a dish. The other main courses we tried could best be described as mediocre. The desserts did little to salvage the meal. They lacked the luscious flavors and textures that great sweet dishes usually bring to the palate. However, it’s only fair to mention a ray of hope amidst the disappointment - the Chicken Lollipop or Fried Red Chicken. It stood out with its well-balanced flavors and was genuinely enjoyable. What further dampened the experience was the ambiance of the place. Upon entering, there was an unmistakable odor which I can only describe as akin to an “extended restroom”. This certainly didn’t help in setting a pleasant dining atmosphere. In the past, Shahnai was a regular eat out place for us. It’s disheartening to see how the quality has dwindled over the years. This revisit was an attempt to see if things had taken a turn for the better, but sadly, that wasn’t the case.

The food is awesome here! Authentic and very homemade. The tandoori chicken is so good that it ruined my life. I cannot find comparable anywhere thus far. So I have to drive at least an hour just to have some.

If I could give less then 1 star I would but google does not allow it. I went for a Party to this restaurant OMG, how can everything be so so bad and its still in business ???? 1) The hall was so hot, when we asked them to cool THE ROOM down they said this all they could do, then we requested them to turn on the fan's they said they don't work 2) Smell of sewer so strong that no one was able to enjoy the party we had to request them to spray room freshener which apparently didn't work, how can anyone be in the business with this kind of place and not feel just an ounce of shame. 3) Food served was spoiled, we had to stay till party is over and run to other restaurant in the area to eat as we were starving. When we called the next day to let the Manager MR. NASEER know about it , he was so upset on us and started to be very rude and disrespectful. DONT EVER EVER EVER GO TO SHANIA LOCATED ON HILLCORT, THEY DONT KNOW TO COOK GOOD FOOD AND IF YOU COMPALIN ABOUT THE MONEY SPEND THEY WILL START CURSING YOU OUT.

I've been coming here since I was a kid. The food, service, and prices are always amazing. I love their food as it reminds me of a high quality home cooked meal. My family and I come here frequently to dine in. When they cater, it's like HEAVEN! The food is always fresh and super tasteful! The only downfall is their location is so hidden in the corner of Hilcroft, but definitely give it a try.

Had my wedding here last month and we used both of their halls for a two day event. The food, the service, the space everything was amazing! Mr. Nasir really came through and assisted with making sure everything went smoothly! He even added some non traditional dishes since it was a fusion wedding! Loved every moment!!!

Mediocre experience for a buffet. Pros: Food was decent. They had an acceptable variety of food such as haleem, chicken tikka masala, a couple different types of rice, etc. I enjoyed the food. Cons: Over the phone, the manager was very friendly, and he told me that the buffet price was $15.99 ($17.31 with tax). But at the restaurant, he charged about $21 total. They added additional fees without telling me. When I questioned the total price, they just said it was the price after tax. But when I showed them that the price increase was way beyond the tax, they said that they added a tip already. And the credit card slip didn't indicate that the tip was already included. Very deceptive and unclear. The bathrooms smelled terrible, like maybe they had a sewage issue. It was not pleasant to eat at the restaurant with that smell. Hopefully they fix their service issues and their bathrooms. Their buffet is one of the more affordable ones in the area, so it would be good to have this as an option, as long as they resolve their issues.

Visited their banquet hall for a function and following was my experience: Food (4☆) Overall, their food quality and taste was great. Loved their Bihari Chicken and Goat Mandi !! Ambiance (2☆) Unfortunately not at the same level as food. The place has great potential, however, it needs face lifting to make it look more contemporary. On the outside, they really need to work on their signage as its very ordinary and lacks appeal. If they upgrade their ambiance, they can become a major force with Houston area.

Horrible food- don'y think any food is fresh and we went in the noon time so it should be freshly prepared. Biriyani's chicken tasted like it had been out of the freezer for days and they covered it with spices. Same with every other dishes. We just couldn't swallow anything. Even dessert man! Couldn't eat them. And we piad $16 per head. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Oh also, we didn't get anything to drink.... We left within 10 min of getting there. JUST STAY AWAY!

This place is a reliable spot for desi food. I've been a regular customer for the past 10 years, and most of the time, their food has been good. Occasionally, I've encountered some issues with their service or food quality, but overall, it's an okay experience.

When I ate at this restaurant couple of years back, I didn’t like the food. The food wasn’t as good as well s as the service. I didn’t like it at all, so I stopped going there at all. Recently, on Eid all the other restaurants were over booked so we went there, and to my surprise everything was changed. The food choices were unfortunately the same, but it tasted better. Way better as I must say. One thing I would say is that please do a remodel of your restaurant. The restaurant long deserves one remodel. Because now the food actually is definitely better then several other restaurants around it.

They serve excellent Iftar Buffet.

These guys are serving spoiled food!!! This is the second time in few months we got spoiled food. We have decided never to go back there. Their kitchen is not kept clean, the workers are sketchy. I thought of reporting this to the health department, but held back. I hope these guys fix these issues and start serving good unspoiled food to the public.

Staff was nice but food was mediocre. No flavor or spices. I am a natural Pakistani and it did not taste Pakistani food at all. It was bland compare to many other places I have tried. The peas and potato gravy was absolutely rubbish, peas weren't cooked properly and the natural sweetness wasn't there. The raita was watered down bit bitter instead of that yogurt flavor. You couldn't even taste the mint. But you gotta try everything once to know if you are going to try it ever again. In my case, no.

Watch your cash! I was enjoying their food, until it came time to pay, that killed it for me. Something I won't do is pay this place with cash. I provided cash to discount from my total and pay the rest on cc. I specifically said 2 people, but due to cashier being on the phone he was not paying attention and was charging me for the whole table. When he adjusted the total, which he was taking a long time to do, I noticed he did not discount my cash that I had given. It wasn't tip money, because I had already provided that at my table.

I like the food and the price is good. The sauces are a little heavy and greasy. I find Indian food to be lighter and I tend to prefer vegetarian, so I usually go that way. But for a change and some goat, I go to Shahnai. Their cabbage salad is fabulous. These extreme bad reviews seem cooked up to me.

I visited there last Thursday afternoon for a lunch with friends. It was easy to locate the place over google maps and the service was one of the best I have experienced in recent times. Loved the fresh food and the the awesome service of the staff. I am visiting Houston for some time and a friend suggested this place. There is a good selection of food to choose from. I loved the taste and it reminded me of desi food. Specially the desert was the best part. This place is awesome for food and service and I suggest everyone to go there and at least once.

Came here on New Year's Eve with the family. We ordered a buffet and everything they had to offer was horrible. The ends of the noodles had crusted up meaning they had been left out for a long time and everything else like the Haleem looked unappetizing. I was glad when they replaced the noodles, but when I tried them again, they were really cold. I feel like they are offering leftover food and not really putting an effort into preparing quality food. The only thing I really liked was my soft drink.

DON’T LISTEN TO ANYONE ELSE READ THIS FIRST!! I’m currently sitting inside and the fried rice smells like an actual outdoor dumpster. I brought my family of 15 here and we couldn’t handle the stench. We complained to management and they just said “if you don’t like don’t eat it” not worth your time and money. Scroll down someone even found a cockroach in their food. I’ve hosted many parties at different restaurant and had the best experience decided to give shanai a try and it wasThe worst experience I’ve ever had. We had hosted a party for 50 people only 35 showed up. The karahi basically had water as gravy. They didn’t give us all the remaining food. There was so much food left over which we paid for and didn’t receive. When I called the next day to let the manager know in which he was very disrespectful and rude.. He didn’t want to address any of the concern I had and hung up the phone.he didn’t care for his customers concern. Never going back.

Buffet quality has been slowly declining, but last night's dinner buffet was extremely disappointing. Kheer was rotten, and most of the items were old as it looked like they had been sitting out there for hours, if not days. Salads were going bad, there was a fly in the custard tray, and there were coackroachs in the women's restroom area. Only positives were the two BBQ items as they kept bringing out fresh ones, and the biryani was also good once they brought out a fresh batch. Stay away from dinner buffet at all costs.

I order B1G1free chicken and they send me very small portion of food it’s less then half container plus I order BBQ combo they send me half portion of chicken tikka too it’s very small portion too. They charged me more then other restaurant and false add because less then half container of food. Plus they don’t give any salad too. I’m so disappointed 😢 from them I order from Uber delivery. I lost my money. If I can’t reach them God reach them, I leave this in God hand and God do better then me. But I don’t recommend for my friends and other for this restaurant it’s rip of money. Worst ever food. Seems ages old and they kept it by adding some bad stuff..roaches on the walls. Hair in food..you can not eat any of the vegetarian food ..not eatable..seems it will cause us food poisoning .. sweet was also bad .. don't go there..very few options..I don't know about non-veg food..

as an Indian food lover, I must give this buffet a worst rating. Since I ate lots of Indian restaurants across country, in different counties, the food and flavor of this restaurant are the lowest ranking. Not genuine flavor, materials are not fresh, overall an unpleasant experience. As an equivalent comparison, Shiva Indian Restaurant in rice village is much better choice.

this food is the nastiest excuse for indian food i have ever had. the place smells. they charge 6.99/lb for food you dont eat, if you get the buffet. dont eat here!!!! so disgusting and the parking lot is a mess. there are chairs in the parking spots lol??? like why??? also its 16 bucks a person for this slop.

I would say it’s the worst Pakistani resturant in entire Texas. Everything in the buffet was stained and seems like the food is two weeks old. Pathetic service. The lady at the reception didn’t even know the wifi password. The host who invited us were also so embarassed as they saw some good reviews (I don’t know from which site or blog) however, they were too disappointed. Most of the guest just had dessert since that was only less risker to be food poisoned. Chicken tikka were burnt from outside and undercooked from inside. Haleem seem to be mixed with water. Biryani rice were low quality. Nan were fresh only. Even fountain drinks were not fizzy. Overall experience 1/10. Never going again and don’t recommend it to anyone. Waste of money. I feel bad for the host.

We visited on Valentines evening and found several of their patrons eating directly from the buffet. When we reported it to the cashier, she said that it was US who had a problem and refused to address the issue. I reminded her that had the Health Dept. witnessed what we just had, they would have been closed until conditions were rectified. The food was old and dried. The cashier was the rudest person I have ever met in the Customer Service industry. I would not recommend this place is looking for tasty food with a smile.

If you going with kids, it's not worth because they charged you extra money for the left over food. It's always pressure is built on parents to finish food on the plate by kids. It's ripped off. You can't enjoy your food with the kids because of this extra charges pressure. Two stars for the food quality, food was tasty. Recommend for food to go.

Went on a Saturday night with my husband expecting a made to order meal. To our surprise there was a dinner buffet instead. Food was HIGHLY overpriced for the quality and selection. Either bland and tasteless or oily and stale. Biriyani was a joke and I don't have words for the "Chicken 65" - nothing was impressive. The only thing I could eat was the fried mini samosas and the fresh Naan bread which came out at the end of our meal. Servers were sweet and attentive. If it wasn't for the food they'd have something going for them.

So we were there last night and the food was not so good but just ok or average but when we were paying the guy at the register charged us $15.99 + Tax + 15% service charges which we were never told about and there was no sign about it either. Ok then he didn’t give us no receipt either. Not only that he just put the money in register and walked away. So he’s not going to show this kind of sales in his Taxes either. Also we didn’t received any services either, no one came to pick up our dirty plates to pick up. I am not going to this again that’s for sure…

The food is pretty good.. as long as you're eating the desi stuff. They attempt Chinese, but it doesn't taste too great. Honestly it's a pretty decent value since you're sure to be full, but other factors play in.. like sanitation. I dislike that their curtains have had oil and food stains since I first went there like 10 years ago. I've seen small roaches... Just keeping things a little cleaner would help a lot

I don't know where all these bad reviews came from. This isn't the best Indian-Pakistani restaurant but it's pretty good. Small buffet and not too expensive. Very clean and quiet restaurant. It's a bit difficult to look for in that strip mall.

I went there for lunch buffet today had a below par Pakistani buffet experience. The beef paya, nihari and haleem were extremely lack of flavors. Chicken Chapli kebab was cold and soggy. Also experienced the worst halwa ever. The chicken biryani was slightly better in flavor and taste but it was never refilled. The service was also disappointing. The air conditioning was not working properly, which is a must requirement during Texas Summer! I had a way better Pakistani buffet experience at another location which is within a half mile radius from this restaurant. It was my first time eating at Shahnai. Won't be there again in future.

I ordered foot for catering from Shahnai and was very disappointed in the quality of food i received. I ordered 2 large trays of Chicken Biryani (feeds 20-25 ppl). When I brought it home and opened it to start serving my guests, i realized they filled the top of the tray with fresh basmati rice and the bottom of the tray was full of old biryani that had an bad odor to it. The chicken must have been 1 or 2 days old and left out. The rice was clumpy and didn't taste good. Most of my guests were not able to enjoy it. Im suspecting they filled my order with left over biryani from the buffet from the previous night! Very deceitful practice from this restaurant that I did not expect!! WILL NOT ORDER FROM HERE AGAIN.

The worst ever experience I’ve had in an Indian restaurant. Let me start by saying that Indian food is my favorite and rarely if ever, have I had a bad experience. We ordered the chicken biryani (not sure how it’s spelled) and mango lassi (I asked for no ice because it was being delivered and didn’t want it watered down). WELL! The lassi arrived like a watered down warm juice - so they gave me the finger to the no ice thing and most importantly, the dish was a complete mess! Tiny chicken bones EVERYWHERE! Not to mention it looked like throw away food, packed with no care and thrown in the take away box. We took a few bites with tiny chicken bones in them and decided this was not edible! We saved our stomachs. Would NEVER eat from this restaurant again, almost $40 for rice and chicken bones and a tiny bit of chicken with half water half Lassi is outrageous! There’s much better, higher quality Indian restaurants in Houston!

My Baba and I went to Shahnai today to get some food. There was two teenagers on the front desk, and they had no experience. They told us 10 minutes, but took more than 30 minutes. Then we complained to the elder there, and he was very rude. He also started being rude to my Baba, when he said "I've been here for 30 minutes." The elder guy replied "You only have been here for less than 10 minutes." Also the elder guy was talking to somebody else the whole time so he had no clue what he was talking about. I would not recommend to eat there because the staff is horrible, the food was coming out super slow, the staff is rude, people have their masks down, service is slow, they weren't using gloves while inside the kitchen either, and staff didn't have mask on either. Worst Pakistani restaurant in all of Houston. Do not go there, there is many better options along Hillcroft.

Owner was very rude. We had a group of 12 with 6 children. He gave free lassi and then overcharged the entire group as adults. when we asked him to fix he said we for free lassi so we shoudlnt complain. the food was one of the worst buffets in Houston as the food was old and stale. The worst experience ever and I am amazed someone like this is still in business.

I visited this place with my husband on Saturday. All the dishes were stale. White rice were so hard due to reheating again and again. Green salad with garbanzo beans was smelling so bad. Fruit custard also had the strangest flavor being stale. Chicken tikka was extremely dry and biryani rice were also hard. Nothing was fresh, my husband and my stomach got upset after eating there. Only there naans are fresh and kheer was good. We literally ate the naan with kheer.

Oh my lord... We were absolutely flabbergasted at every item we tasted on their buffet line up. We were not interested in tasting, we were basically looking for something we could manage to eat. When you are extremely hungry anything will taste good except the food at this place. I feel bad about writing a review but I feel equally passionate about people who come here to eat. Someone said "unwashed rice". Absolutely true about the foul smell/flavor. It is not unwashed rice but it is dumping fresh food on top of old food through out the day (because it is an all-day buffet). It develops a foul smell. Oh my god, each and every item had some issue. We were literally converting the scene into a Bolllywood movie joke, paid $26 but ate at a nearby McDonnalds. I can't imagine how this restaurant is allowed to operate by health officials. I am going to write a letter to them.

The butter chicken was amazing, and the naan is super fluffy! The owners were incredibly attentive, as well, and made sure we had a great time! Will definitely be going back for more butter chicken!

We have been going there for a while and also do take out, pickup or delivery on other services. But today it was worst experience. My husband and I went for breakfast. He wanted to take that breakfast buffet. But I was not feeling to eat . We went at the counter . That guy told you get 3 item and puri. He explained items but did not say the puri quantity is limited. As we know buffet is unlimited and my husband was bit hungry. He went for that and I ordered chicken and nun. Nun was not well cooked and I was not feeling to eat so I was just trying to accompany my husband. He was given 3 puri. And when he finished I requested to give more. The lady who was serving us , kind of giving reminder.. that he was supposed to get 3 for the buffet!! We were shocked !!😭 How come you limit people in middle of eating .

Back in the days with previous owner, the food use to be AMAZING! The new owner, the short guy, confronts 30+ items (actually only 10 items) & charges for Naan. Raita was spoilt. I asked him for a breakdown and he would hesitate. Food is OK, felt like it was all stale.

My wedding reception at Shahnai last month was a memorable event, thanks to Mr. Nasir. Excellent customer service and he really goes out of his way to make sure your day is as perfect as it could be. Definitely recommending it to all those new couples looking for a great reception hall with a gentleman who is a delight to deal with. He'll take over the entire event and the couple or the family does not have to worry for a thing. I had my mehndi ceremony at Shenai, and honestly it was an amazing experience! Naseer did a great job at making sure everything was perfect that night. He took time out to regularly check on me to accommodate any changes which no other venue has done so far. This shows you the level of care and respect they have for their clients. He stayed till the end of the event to ensure all the food was distributed and everyone was satisfied with it. They are just great, highly recommend them for weddings/parties.

Shahnai is one of the very few restaurants about whom I can say that they don’t have the best tasting food but a restaurant that offers good variety, taste n flavor is good and that is mainly cuz they keep it fresh or maybe they have learned the art of buffet food service. Good customer service and it’s a Restaurant where you can go eat and come out satisfied or at times happy but very rarely upset. Atmosphere, sitting arrangement is like of a below average restaurant but hey I am willing to pay for that buffet just cuz it offers variety n freshness of the food.

My first time here. Ordered on grub hub and had to wait a bit but those veggie samosas were well worth it. Omg. It comes with 4 pieces and I ordered the vegetable biryani as well. My plan was to eat half the samosas and half the biryani and save the rest for lunch but I could not stop myself at just 2 pieces. Geez... So good! And idk what that sauce is but it was the right amount of sweet and spicy and a great compliment to the samosas. Worth the wait! The biryani is good too! Flavourful and spicy! Will be back.

We had a HORRIBLE experience with Shahnai Restaurant about two weeks ago. Initially we had gone to a different restaurant but someone suggested Shahnai's buffet and we thought we would try it. It was dinner buffet and I think it was around $13-$14/person as it was a Saturday night. The food was NOT fresh and every single item on the food station was cold and stale. The only item that was brought fresh to the table was Naan. We didn't complain at that time as there was no manager and it was only two ladies servers who were manning the bar and serving the naan at the table. I will definitely NOT recommend anyone to go for Dinner buffet on a Saturday night after this horrible experience. I hope the management reads this review and bring some change in the restaurant. I wish I had some pictures to upload, I would have taken pictures of the food.

Delicious Buffet for 13$ and halal, can't beat that. Will definitely be coming back. Wish there were more dessert options but no big deal; would rather double up on goat anyway!

South Asian meat and potatoes BUFFET with a minor nod for vegetarians. The buffet touches all key expectations for the basic items. Pleasantly not surprised that the food is generally fresh - three party halls of varying sizes in the complex assures food is constantly being prepared. Prompt replenishment of the Naan tray is recognized but obviously the tandoori tray needs predictive/proactive management. Seating is a bit constrained. For health conscious folks, watch out on several fronts - greasiness, oil flotation and rich meat but the goat meat and chicken are not boneless - par for the course for South Asian restaurants.

Best Pakistani food out there! Drop everything you are doing and come and try this restaurant, you will not regret it. Each time I come is better than the last, great food, amazing courtesy, fine-dining, and the proportions are amazing!

My husband and I have tried almost all the Indian resturants in and around houston and Shahnai is the best quality, taste, price and service. They offer a buffet so you dont need to know the names of Indian dishes and do not need to have a favorite. Its great for people wanting to try Indian food but nervouse as well as people who love Indian food already. Buttered Chicken is my favorite! Nehari is my husbands favorite but nothing at Shahnai will disappoint! Staff is friendly always smiling and I have happily seen them offer food to less fortunate. I have been to several ecents catered by them and the food was just asz delicious. Majority of their customers are Indian and African and you cant get much more authentic then Shahnai over the last few years we have enjoyed seeing more Anericans in here trying out their delicious buffet. This is our go to place when in Houston but wed have also drove the hour when we just craved good Indian food. They usually have Indian fried chicken on Fridays thats a special treat for sure. Bad thing is they could update the look its just so plain and the restrooms always need work but then if they did that they may have to raise the prices and Iam not eatting in the bathroom so its not that big of a concern.

Found this little gem near my work and it's my new lunch spot. Can't beat the service or price. I ordered a chicken sandwich but forgot to specify I wanted grilled so they brought out the fried sandwich first. They immediately.made the grilled sandwich and told me to keep the other one for a coworker or myself!

I wish there was something below than one star,the owner of this place nearly ruined my wedding, terrible person and horrific place! We heard some really bad reviews about it but didn't believe that ( our worse mistake). Wish I could write everything here in detail but can't! I wouldn't ever recommend it to anyone else! Inshort, save your time, energy and money and don't get yourself in trouble with these fraudsters!

Awesome food and highly excellent service. I booked a party and Mehdi (the manager) helped me with every step to set it up. It was well organized and everything turned out perfect, the decorations was outstanding and beautiful and the food was fresh and delicious. Mehdi was with us through every step of the party and I want to thank him and his team for an outstanding services.

Went to this place after hearing lot of hype on Radio. Totally a waste of money. Tried both vegetarian and non- veg food which is not at par. The buffet menu has limited options. Food doesn’t look appealing, forget about taste! No good service and ambience sucks.

Recently degraded in food quality. There is no such pattern that I have figured out on what time of day to visit for great fresh food that it use to be. Especially, their wedding catering service is horrible. Somtimes the food has been cooked so far in advance that by the time it is served at the wedding, it has gone stale and spoiled.

i went to this restaurant for goat buryani and they charge $10 for it. i have noticed that once the plate comes in front of you, you would notice that the goat meat is there but it seems that this has been cooked for different dishes or could be the extra quantity from other left overs. you would hardly look that the meat is not of of uniformly cooked quality for the biryani, and the texture and quality seems different. even the taste of meat is found different.

Excellent and very delicious food. I was very surprised to see Nihari, Kababs, Haleem and Paya like premium dishes on their buffet menu. Food was hot and fresh, tasted authentic, reminded me of back home. I will highly recommend this place.

Lovely place to come for the Buffett or just a dinner night. Authentic pakistani food at its finest and the service is quite nice. Clean bathroom and a clean restaurant. I hope they continue to keep this standard. The nihari and chinese food options are phenomenal !

We had a really bad experience, It was my engagement ceremony this past weekend and it was a complete shock for me and my fiance when we entered. We went to check the hall at 2 pm when the function was starting at 7 pm, nothing was ready, he assured us everything will be done according to what we discussed but to our surprise it wasn't. There was no carpet on the stage, our pictures had to be cropped because of that. When the cake came out the knife was missing, there was an awkward moment as we were waiting for the knife and our guests were just waiting. There was a bug in the water dispenser and one of our guests found it, we were left in a very bad situation in-front of our guests/relatives. The floor was greasy there were small bugs flying around. It wasn't what we were told it would be. To top all this the manager was not at all supportive. He called the cops on us blaming that we weren't paying whereas all we were looking was an apology. After the cops came the manager wouldn't let us pay by card he wanted us to pay in cash, there was no agreement that we have to pay in cash, who carries cash for their own engagement party. We weren't happy with their services at all. The manager is outright rude, staff doesn't know what needs to be done. Save the money and don't host your functions here, save yourself the embarrassment. It was a nightmare for us.

Visiting houston found this restaurant near my hotel. Good Pakistani Buffet restaurant, verity of different dishes, which include salads and dessert PLUS fountain drinks. Customer service is also great and price is very reasonable. Defenilty recommended plus I will be visiting again. Thank you

Found out about this gem thru my friend Daniel Cruz. Buffet style Indo-Pak with excellent quality dishes. Menu changes often so it doesn’t get old. The value you get here is unmatched, since these sorts of meals are meant to be shared, I used to spend $75 easily on a date just to try out 3 or 4 dishes. Here you can try up to 17!!!! And dessert for a fraction of the price. Location is somewhat hidden and have to go they a long driveway to get here so do not worry, address is correct. Come try it out and see for yourself.

My two youngest have been vomitting since we visted. and my nephew as well has been vomitting several days. they all have food poisoining we eat out a lot, and this has been the work experience in houston The food is not safe and not sure how they are allowed to stay in business

Service was okay but the food was horrible. The only two things that were fresh on the buffet were the butter chicken and the fresh naans. They constantly were bringing fresh food for their "special" customers and expect the others to eat stale food. Their fried fish was hard as a rock and disgusting. I will never be going back!!

I sent my father in law there to try buffet but there are not too many options and food was very spicy. You can't enjoy the food if food is very spicy . Tasteless food.Staff was good though.

The place is very clean and nice atmosphere, they have a great buffet and a lot of verity. The staff are very friendly i attend their party reception hall also, the food was amazing specially the whole chicken chargha over the rice it was awesome.

The food selection on a week night was pretty good although the whole buffet is pretty small. There wasn’t any lamb but there was Biryani for you Indian food lovers. There was more Pakistaní foods than Indian food. The Naan was fresh AND hot and constantly coming out. Flavor-wise the foods were too-notch. The seasoning was full and heavy and really hits you there. I studied abroad in India and Pakistan and I can attest to the talent of the chef. The decor is pretty simple and the atmosphere very casual. The drink fountain ran out of Diet Coke and the owner gave me a free Diet Coke can to make up for it. Very nice service. It is very deep into Hilcroft so there isn’t really a view and it was quite simple.

Much improved since the last time I was there. Food was a little too spicy for me though. But the quality is better than before. I ordered the Chicken Palak, Chana Masala, Nihari, Boti Kebab and they gave me Chicken Kheema on the house. I have had the kheema before, but had forgotten to order it. Only word of caution I would say is that during the month of Ramadhan, they do not have a lot of vegetable dishes so you should call them to check. Also, they only have regular naan and no variety such as garlic naan or butter naan.

Shahnai did a great job in providing an extremely great service on my sisters wedding.Naseer bhai is a great asset to the restaurant he helped us from suggesting the venue to selecting dishes and also providing great service. I would highly recommend Shahnai restaurant to do your catering. Keep it up Shahnai!

I had seekh kabob and Manchorian chicken. I really liked the food with authentic Naan and Raita. Fried rice were good choice for kids. It was nice experience overall and I’ll recommend folks who are looking for good IndoPak food to visit this place. We will be definitely coming here to try other dishes.

Worst experience ever.... I went in and order biryani to go. When I received the box of biryani so I decided to smell for freshness. Indeed it was fresh however it looked totally off. Just pkain rice with 2 small pieces of chicken. So I took it back to the counter and showed the box to the manager. Their response was its that we serve to togo customers. Even though you can see the biryani on yhe buffet that looks really good, managet said no this is not for goto. Then the manager start arguing that this is what biryani looks like, trying to fix the issue but making me even mad at the service. I come to Mercy center for jumma prayer and today I was way to early so I decided to stop and get lunch earlier, worst mistake to try shahnai for goto order. Owner if you want to make things right please serve good food, if you are charging the right amount then the food should reflect it. Not just giving rice and curry to make biyani. You guys should be ashamed of your food.

Ordered buffet for a big group. Felt ripped off. Food was not even mediocre. The chicken corn soup and the Chinese chicken were lumpy. The beef biryani had fishy smell to it. Chicken 65 was edible. Chicken tikka pieces were the only items I enjoyed. The pulao rice were disintegrated. The custard and jello were good. The hummus was runny. The shir was very sweet. Will not be returning.

First the restaurant smells bad. The food very oily and not much variety. No one come to clean your table and at the end you find out your self been charged for 15% gratuity. The management so bad to handle any concern. Please don’t waist your money and your day by going to that nasty restaurant.

I am regular customer since to 2007, its a great place to eat. Buffet is very delicious and the prices is decent. They are known for their Event halls for all occasions as well. I choose Shahnai for lunch or dinner.

Very bad food felt like it was there was for 2-3 days no air conditioner the restroom smelled and the food like plain rice and kulfi was for extra charge and when we were about to check out the Manger tried to charged us more for Naan but we did not even got it the soda was dead it did not had the taste. Not worth the money I would suggest not going there with your family.

No diet soda, so we left, leaving our plates full of food. Not coming back. I'm on a low carb diet, so sugary soda is not an option. I'm not going to pay for a drink as part of the buffet, and not get my drink. When I showed the issue to the employee, she didn't offer to correct the problem. Either keep your diet soda running, or lose business permanently, as I my case.

I am not a big fan of rewiews. But after last night Dinner at Shahni Restaurant Southwest Houston Tx. I like to share my experience with you all. In Houston every block you can find Pakistani and Indian restaurant. Claiming to be authentic food. Being a South Asia our culture is so rich. We born with authentic food taste. What makes us different from others is our Food and Tradition. What impressed me the most was a combination of both. The food was awesome most importantly the treatment. There is old saying " what brings the customer back, It is the words comes out of your mouth". I saw that last night. I pray to Allah swt to blessed their business. I am sold. Thank you so so much. I have been to this restaurant several times. Great restaurant for authentic Hyderabadi food. Mr. Zubair Shariff is the chef from Hyderabad. You can ask for him if you need to order Hyderabadi dishes when you go there or call them. I will highly recommend this place to my family and friends.

The owner needs to stop being nosy when people are eating food which is absolutely rude. And plus the food didn't even look fresh at all and on top of that the owner is so rude and disrespectful and was nosy when people were eating food. I really think it's time to call the health inspector as they'll definitely have this restaurant shut down immediately as there were roaches crawling in the bathroom and on the hot food buffet area. Restrooms smelled like sewer ordered saag paneer and curry chicken to go made it home no jasmine rice which should have been told to me it’s sold separately then the chicken curry has nothing but bones and grease and the saag paneer has cream in it like why it’s never been served to me this way and two pieces of cheese I’m calling for a refund and get told to bring food and card it’s 10:40 at night y’all closed at 10:30 so no I’m wasting gas no food for my family and have to suffer for your nasty food horrible never again will I come here

Booked them for a wedding- really professional. Has great decor, good Desi food for every pallet. Recommend to anyone who wants to arrange a wedding!

I wish I can rate this restaurant a negative star they don't even deserve any star. Front Manager Javed Bahi is the nicest person I have ever met and I believe the restaurant is in business just because of his nice behavior. Please save time and money do your business else where. Best Haleem in town, I haven't had better Haleem than this place anywhere in Houston. Other food good too, prices very affordable for zabiha halal food. One of the oldest & well know name for Pakistani food, friendly staff

Well not a super food! But was ok to try for emergency and a different try! We tried biryani which was discipline but their chicken pieces were very good and juicy!

Love this place. It has tranformed its service and food quality 100%. The new manager has made the food super delicious and the customer service top notch. Its my new favorite desi restaurant to go to now. One of the best indian / pakistani / chinese fusion buffet in houston.

All dishes are very good in taste esp. Haleem is too good. It's reasonable in price. My whole family is so happy and satisfied with food taste and quality. Pls do go once.

I went there after 5-6 years and my opinion changed. There food and atmosphere is worst than before. Ww were the first customer when they opened in the morning. Nothing was fresh. Only restaurant ive been coming to since i moved to houston about 3 years ago. But the service has been down grading for a while now. Always got the same food. 5 naans, haleem and a to go tray of their chicken. The chicken was really old and burnt. Asked the girl at the counter if theres anymore chicken, she replied in 30 minutes (with an attitude). Guy in front of me asked politely for napkins and she also gave an attitude and pointed at the table. Guy left mumble rapping his way out the door. There was a very nice girl about 3 months ago. Always tipped her and was so polite. Its a shame that terrible workers will ruin a business. It hurts putting up this 1 star. Always recommended people to go here. I would have to find a new restaurant in my area.

One of the owner I met today his name is irfan and I had terrible experience today I was daily customer for past one year I used to go to everyday but this guy named irfan said he will charge for onions and raita extra and I have told him that I come everyday uncle and I not buying for the first time he said you will pay for from today. He sound like an uneducated person to me who don’t even know how to handle daily customers so he lost a valued one daily customer. And I will tell this Story to every single person I know that being of the owner he did a chindi chori act(petty act).

Amazing service and delicious food! Allhumdulliah they even helped us make room for prayer. I will definitely come back again with my friends and family. They cater too! Rizwan Ali Uncle is the best.

I visited this place from California in a wedding invitation meet the working crew and Rizwan the owner they where very humble and the service was great I can understand how much effort they put to keep there customer happy there service was great my 5 star wasn’t enough to give them they where simply the best the team was working so hard to fit customers needs there where no shortcut I like to visit this place again and again the foods where so delicious I will be returning back o California and one thing I will be missing is this great place .

Shehnai food used to be good but now the taste and quality is not good. Catering food is better than the Dine In one. Would suggest to improve the qualtity of the food as it used to be.

I had my engagement event in this hall and these people specialize in messing up your event. I am from Atlanta and my fiancé is from Toronto so we had made a booking via my uncle and on reaching Houston we met the owner SHAHID and explained him what we wanted. He didn’t even have the password to his laptop to show us the stage backdrops and we had an event in next 4 days finally we planned one something which we were not satisfied. Later i send this guy a picture of one of the events held at the same venue and asked him to give us the same decor and setup to which he agreed. (Have a text fir the record). On reaching the venue on the big day we find there is no carpet whatsoever. There are bugs in the water dispenser , there is no cake knife, the floor is slippery, and the food was not of the right standard. ALL OUR PICTURES HAD TO BE CROPPED AS THE STAGE CARPET IS MISSING AND THE UNFINISHED WOOD ON THE STAGE CAN BE SEEN. It was the most terrible experience i have ever come across. After the event was over we call the owner from their landline phone in the restaurantAnd explained him our displeasure which he wasn’t even apologetic and says that you have to make the full payment or else I will call the cops . After arguing for 30 minutes we decided to make the payment when we were ready to make the payment the owner tells me he can only except cash . We did not have cash more than thousand dollars who carries cash when it’s your wedding so I don’t him that I do not have sufficient cash and I can only make the payment by Card to which he call cops on us that was hilarious because the cops then eventually asked him to take our card . The owner Shahid is not the guy that you would want to talk . He actually missed of the event more by calling cops but later he had to face the consequences. ADVICE: please try other halls like SAVOY AND AGAs . They are more reasonable than this scam here. Those people are way more genuine and you will receive the best customer service. The food is delicious and you are treated as family... I would recommend this place... they make party planning very easy and give exceptional service... they have variety of selection to choose from and the food just makes you want to get more and more... great service and food for the family...

Yikes! Me and my family usually like this place but this time it was really bad. The food tasted a off which isn't usually the case. Idk why this time was so bad but it just was. Now I'm not saying that it'll be the same for every one or that it's always bad. I'm just sharing my experience which will be my last. It was disappointing plus it's pretty pricey 😬

It is an average sized hall. Basically for wedding I guess. As the interior gave an idea of mehandi. I came here to attend a conference lecture. It has round tables with chairs. And one stage which contained a Pakistani traditional decorated swing for groom and bride. Walls are decorated with mirrors (called jharonka in Desi language) and flowers. Then the hall has washroom for male and female but these washroom are not well maintained and also the passage is interrupted by large carton boxes and storage stuff. There is one separate door in the hall that opens to buffet area. The food was quite good. All paksitani menu roast karahi biryani, seekh kabab, makhni karai, nehari, paye, chicken, chicken Malai, chinese rice, chanaa, noodels , pasta, and much much more. I can't mention. Sweet dish salad and variety of drinks. And it was only for dollar 66 per head. Kids menu was also available. I like the food alot. And after that tea was also served.

The food was spectacular. Rizwan did a great job hosting us. The food management was amazing and the hostess are generous. I definitely recommend this place for a great meal and amazing customer service.

They had pretty good paya here. Unusual for me to ever see paya at a buffet. The meal came with an all you can drink soda and my lunch was under $12 in total w\ soda! Clean restrooms!

The worst, unhealthy spicy bad quality expensive food. as soon as I ate at this place my stomach started hurting I hate this place will never go there again

I have to edit my review, Last 3 times I went to eat, they gave me old soggy Naan, and said the tandoor is off, not the way pakistani restaurants operate, food is still good, but will not go back because of the naan, Old review: Always have fresh and clean food, nice variety, good desert, nice and creamy Kheer, nice selection of deserts, two thumbs up.

I went there on sat with my friend s when I can expect the food would be fresh Bec it’s weekend but embarrassed moment for me front of my friends their food was horrible it was cold n kabab were uncooked biryani taste like it’s been sitting there for past 2 days n dahi barey n Chana smell s bad . Not worth going there this place is waste of time n money I wouldn’t recommend to no one.

This is one of my favorite places to go in Houston, they always have a fresh buffet amazing customer service, and the manager Mr. Rizwan hospitality is very outstanding. I highly recommend this place if you visiting Houston, TX.

I always forget to put a review on this authentic restaurant. The food taste so good , staff are friendly and the price is great ! I ordered delivery on doordash and forgot to add naan bread but the manager was kind and he didn't charge for it . Try the chicken tikka masala!

I've attended many events and weddings at Shahani that were fun, recently I had my own wedding at Shahani which met my expectations while in the middle of Covid Pandemic. Naseer Bhai and his team went above and beyond with food, decorations and entertainment. He was gracious, kind and understanding of my wife's and mine needs for both our days (Ruhksaati and Walima), I am happy with the services provded by Shahani, we will recommend them to all of our friends and family, and have our future events with them. Nice mix of indian and pakistani food. They arent afraid of putting spicy dishes on the buffet. Fresh bread brought to the table. Buffet is a good value for the variety.

Terrible experience ever, I went to Shahnai sponsored banquet hall party ... food was complete waste of money(salty as ocean water), food was not warm till the end, over lap of booking time of the hall with other party, provided dj was a crazy as F___, table and decoaration removed before booked time was over... never ever book a party at this place!!!

When I lived in Houston I ate here almost on a daily basis and being American and loving indian/Pakistani food it is hard to find a good place to go! This is the place to go! The best butter chicken, chicken tikka, chicken makahani and chicken tikka masala! Always hot food and great naan bread! LOVE IT! Wish there was more than one of these buffet restaurants around the country now that I am a truck driver I would love to find one like this in other states! I recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Houston or lives in Houston and wants something different!
